A leaf portrait

bb’s first embroidery: a journey

Quarantine has made me reinvest in wholesome homesteading activities and/or skills that will still be handy when the apocalypse truly comes. Enter: embroidery.

I found this unassuming pattern and as it combines two of my favorite things (nature, tiny handiwork), did a purchase.

I knew so little about embroidery that I didn’t realize the hoop was broken when it arrived. Did a MacGyver on it, though. Do not worry.

Snitches basket ropes get stitches. First ones are a lil shaky but it only gets better from here.

Next, the basket and all the lil leaf spines and then LEAVES.

Many outfits later, progress is made.

Slow and steady progress until… DISASTER STRIKES.

I didn’t even know it was possible to snap a needle in half, but apparently it is. After consulting some Experts, I fixed it. Crisis. Averted.

Fast forward one needle and a few hours later, we have a completed leaf portrait.

Gratuitous glamour shot, but that basket weave tho! (and the inevitable Captain Kirk hair…)
